When SweetieBang moved out, I was pretty frantic about the idea of being a busy, single beagle mom. I take dog guardianship seriously and the reason I hadn’t adopted a dog years ago was because I think it’s cruel and selfish to leave a pack animal crated or alone for 10-12 hours a day. A cat is one thing: felines are much more solitary animals, and although they get lonely and need attention and play time, they can do fine for long hours on their own. Dogs, however, need much more attention and exercise, not to mention the opportunity to visit their outdoor bathrooms!
