Movies That Hurt Too Much

There’s an interesting conversation going on over at movie critic Roger Ebert’s blog about movies that we can’t bear to watch because they hurt too much. For Ebert, that movie is “Wit,” an incredible HBO production that came out a few years ago starring Emma Thompson and directed by Mike Nichols. I agree with Ebert that the movie was excruciating — it left me gasping on my couch like a grounded catfish — but not unwatchable. But that’s probably because I don’t have cancer, and Ebert does.
What are some of the films that you find too painful — or almost too painful– to watch, and why?
