It seems to me that commitment to being the Church (not just attending church, which anyone can do) happens at two levels, and that it requires maturity to live on both of those levels at the same time.
On the first level, we abide side by side as human beings turning our hearts and minds toward the Holy, trying to orient our lives in the direction to which it points. We rely on our various traditions to help us know the way. We are all radically equal before God and regard each other as sisters and brothers regardless of any difference or disagreement among us.
